Who We Are

The Institute for the Arts and Humanities is a faculty development center in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We offer programs and activities that support UNC faculty at every stage of their careers. The IAH funds individual and collaborative research, showcases faculty work, develops faculty leaders and teachers, and facilitates the formation of collaborative, interdisciplinary communities that promote intellectual exchange.

Our core programs offer faculty on-campus, semester leaves to pursue research and projects and develop current and emerging leaders.

Why Digital Arts and Humanities
A key mission of the Institute is to support faculty retention and recruitment in the College of Arts and Sciences, in particular. In our research into peer institutions, we found a growing community of faculty pursuing arts and humanities projects using technology as a medium. The collaboration that technology enables, especially across disciplines, is a key part of our mission.

Then, we looked around us and realized the vast potential of the Triangle area to support such work. Through the CHAT festival, we will showcase existing collaborations and help create new ties between the academics and entrepreneurs in this area.
